Is this voice recorder free, and is my voice uploaded?

Yes, free with no sign-up. Recording runs entirely in your browser with the MediaRecorder API — your voice is never uploaded, stored on a server or shared by this tool. It stays in this tab until you download it.

Why is my download a WebM or MP4 file, not MP3?

The browser itself chooses the recording format: Chrome and Firefox usually save WebM, Safari saves MP4. We label and save that real format instead of promising an MP3 the browser never made. If you need another format, you can convert the downloaded file with a tool you trust.

Can I pause a recording and continue on the same take?

Yes. Pause stops the clock and the microphone feed for that section, and Resume continues the same recording, so a lecture, song or voice note can be captured in one file with breaks in the middle.

Why did the recorder say the microphone was blocked?

The browser only hands the microphone to a page after you allow it. If you denied the prompt, or blocked it earlier, allow microphone access in the browser's site settings and try again — nothing was recorded while access was blocked.

May I record other people with this tool?

Only with their permission. Recording laws differ by place, and recording a conversation without consent can be illegal. Record yourself freely; for anyone else, ask first.
