Is this PDF splitter free? Is my file uploaded?

Yes, free with no sign-up, and your file is never uploaded. Splitting runs entirely in your browser tab with the open-source pdf-lib library, so you can split private documents without sending them to a server.

How do I extract only some pages from a PDF?

Add the PDF, note its real page count, then type the pages like 1-3, 5, 8-10: commas separate groups and a hyphen means a range. Pick One PDF for a single combined file, or Separate PDFs for one file per group, then download.

Why did my PDF fail to open?

Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened by browser PDF libraries — remove the password in a desktop PDF app first. Damaged files, unusual formats, and very large PDFs that exceed the browser's memory can also fail; try smaller ranges or a desktop tool.

Does splitting a PDF compress it or make scanned text editable?

No. Splitting copies pages exactly as they are: file sizes stay roughly proportional to the pages kept, text is not edited, and a scanned page stays a picture of text — there is no OCR. For readable text from a scan, use the Image to Text tool on an exported page image.

What is the difference between splitting and merging?

Splitting takes one PDF apart: selected pages become new, smaller PDFs. Merging does the opposite — several PDFs become one. Use this PDF Splitter to extract pages, and the PDF Tools page (Merge) to combine files.
